About us

An authorized Joerns dealer shipping Dolphin FIS nationwide

Dolphin Mattress Direct supplies one family of equipment: Dolphin® FIS® fluid immersion simulation therapy surfaces made by Joerns Healthcare. We rent them by the month and sell them outright, we ship anywhere in the United States, and we set them up and take them away again.

We are an authorized Joerns dealer. We are not Joerns Healthcare, we are not a hospital, and we are not affiliated with any health system, VA facility or government agency. Everything we say about the equipment comes from Joerns’ own documentation, and everything we say about coverage comes from published payer policy. Where we do not know something, this site says so instead of filling the gap.

Several plain wrapped crates of matching size standing in a row on low pallets, with a folded hand truck leaning beside them.

How we work

  1. 1

    We start with the frame

Before anything is quoted, we establish what bed frame the surface has to sit on and what the patient weighs. A surface that does not fit is not a surface we will ship.

  2. 2

We put the numbers in writing

Rate or price, freight as a separate line, and the terms. Nothing moves on a verbal understanding, and nothing is quoted to a family that a referring clinician has not seen.

  3. 3

    We deliver and set up

Carried in, fitted, connected, powered up, checked, and handed over to whoever is doing the caring — including what happens when the power goes out.

  4. 4

    We take it back

One call ends a rental. Collection, cleaning and inspection are ours to do, not a family’s problem in a difficult week.

Why one product line

Most suppliers in this market carry a catalog: beds, lifts, chairs, mattresses of every kind. We carry the configurations of one therapy technology, and that focus is the point. It means we know what the 42-inch surface is actually rated at rather than what a brochure says, that we know which models carry a safety cell and which do not, and that when someone describes their bed frame over the phone we know immediately whether anything we have will fit it.

It also means we can say no usefully. If the right answer for a patient is a covered Group 2 surface from an enrolled DME supplier, a hospital bed frame from a local rental company, or a different category of equipment altogether, we can tell you that without losing an argument with our own catalog.

What we will not claim

Certifications we do not hold. We are an authorized dealer of Joerns equipment, which is a commercial relationship, not a certification. You will not find "certified", "exclusive" or "factory-authorized partner" on this site, and you will not find a named sanitization standard, because we hold none. Surfaces are cleaned and inspected between deployments following the cleaning instructions Joerns publishes in the user-service manual, and that is what we say.

Delivery clocks we cannot control. We coordinate expedited dispatch and we tell you the earliest date the carrier will commit to, in writing. We do not publish a guaranteed turnaround, because the carrier network, the weather and a building’s receiving rules are not ours to guarantee.

Coverage we cannot deliver. We do not bill Medicare, Medicaid or commercial insurers and we do not submit claims. Fluid immersion simulation has no HCPCS code of its own and a Dolphin FIS is not an air-fluidized bed. Anyone telling you otherwise is either mistaken or selling.

Proof we do not have. No review counts, no patient numbers, no fleet size, no facility partnerships, no healing statistics. None of those have been verified, so none of them appear. A site that quantifies things it cannot show you has told you something about itself.

How this site is written

Every specification on these pages traces to a Joerns document: the product page, the Dolphin therapy surface spec sheet, the pediatric spec sheet, or the user-service manual. Where the manufacturer hedges a claim, we keep the hedge. Where two documents differ, we follow the manual. Where the client brief we were given disagreed with the manufacturer, the manufacturer won: the 42-inch surface is rated 500 lb, not the higher figure that circulates online, and the safety cell is a feature of specific models rather than of the product line.

Coverage content traces to CMS policy articles and local coverage determinations, and to published commercial payer policy, named where it matters. Prices come from one file that the pricing table, the request form and the structured data all read, so the number you see in a table is the number the site believes everywhere.

None of that is remarkable. It is simply what an honest catalog looks like, and it is unusual enough in this market to be worth stating.

Who we are useful to

Families arranging care at home, usually against a discharge date, usually while doing several other difficult things that week. Clinicians — occupational therapists, physical therapists, wound-care nurses, case managers — who need a supplier that checks fit before shipping and reports back to the referrer rather than around them. Discharge planners who need a straight answer early enough to change the plan.

And facilities and VA health networks, whose procurement runs on their own paper and their own timetable and who mostly need a specification, a quote in a usable format, and a supplier who does not claim contract vehicles it does not hold.

Contact details, and why some are missing

Where a detail is not published on this site, it is because it has not been confirmed, not because it is being withheld. We would rather a page carry a form than a phone number that sends someone arranging equipment against a discharge date to a line nobody answers.

Use the request form and tell us what you need and by when. If a detail on this site is missing that you need in order to make a decision, ask for it and we will give you a straight answer, including "we do not have that yet".

What you can expect from us

  • A fit check against your actual bed frame before anything is quoted
  • Rental and purchase figures in writing, with freight as a separate line
  • Specifications quoted as the manufacturer publishes them, hedges included
  • A plain statement that we do not bill Medicare or submit insurance claims
  • An honest answer when a covered surface or a different supplier is the better route
  • Delivery, setup on the frame, and a handover to whoever is caring
  • Cleaning and inspection of every surface between deployments
  • Collection at the end of a rental, arranged with one call

Questions people ask us

Are you Joerns Healthcare?
No. We are an authorized dealer of Joerns equipment. Dolphin®, Dolphin® FIS®, Fluid Immersion Simulation® and AutoVector® are registered trademarks of Joerns Healthcare LLC, and the manufacturer’s warranty and documentation are theirs.
Where are you based?
We operate as a national freight business rather than a local storefront, shipping to all fifty states. Address and contact details appear on this site only once confirmed; until then, the request form is the way to reach us.
Do you only supply Dolphin FIS?
Yes. One technology, in its various configurations. When a different category of equipment is what a patient actually needs, we say so and point you toward the right kind of supplier rather than selling around the problem.
Do you give clinical advice?
No. Which surface is appropriate is a decision for the care team that has assessed the patient. We describe what the equipment is and what the manufacturer claims for it, in the manufacturer’s own terms, and we answer practical questions about fit, cost and delivery.
Are you affiliated with the U.S. Navy or any hospital?
No. Joerns states that fluid immersion simulation was initially developed for the dry transport of specially trained U.S. Navy dolphins, which is the origin of the technology and not an endorsement of anything. We have no affiliation with any hospital, health system, VA facility or government agency.
Do you sell used or reconditioned units?
We do not use the phrase "factory-certified reconditioned", because we cannot verify it as a Joerns program. Ask what is actually available and we will describe its condition and history in plain terms.

Ask us something specific

Tell us the bed frame, the patient and the date, and we will tell you what fits, what it costs to rent or to buy, and when it could realistically be there.
